Let’s be real: not every app is right for everyone.
Maybe you’ve heard of Everlance but haven’t tried it. Maybe you downloaded it once and never opened it again. Or maybe you’re convinced you don’t need a mileage tracker at all. That’s fair.
But before you write it off, here are the most common reasons people say they don’t want to use Everlance...and why some of those reasons might not hold up. Let's dive in.
Most people don’t mean to skip tracking. It just slips their mind. You get in the car. You drive. You move on to the next task. By the time you think about taxes, that trip is long gone.
You jot down the number before and after a drive. Easy enough. But here’s the catch: odometer readings don’t capture where you went, when you drove, or what the trip was for. If you ever need to report your mileage for taxes or reimbursements, those details matter. In fact, the IRS has thrown out entire mileage deductions over not having these details for trips.
This one is common, but risky. Not only does it leave you much more likely to trigger an audit red flag, but then obviously you will not have the evidence and mileage log required to back that claim of your miles. Not a good idea.
If you drive for a service like DoorDash or Uber, you might get a mileage number in your annual report. That seems like enough, right? Not quite. These summaries often leave out key miles in between jobs, or related to your business that aren't directly related to giving a ride, delivery, etc., and to be accepted as a mileage log, the IRS has specific requirements that the platforms do not provide.
If you only drive for work a few times a month, it might not feel worth the trouble. But even a few hundred miles could lead to hundreds of dollars in deductions. At the current IRS rate 1,000 miles equals $700. The miles you forget still count if you track them.
Even if you’re sold on the idea of tracking your mileage, you might still hesitate to use Everlance. That’s normal. Here are the most common reasons we hear and what we want you to know.
You might’ve heard that Everlance can miss a trip now and then. Or maybe you tried it once and something didn’t track the way you expected.
There are a few reasons this can happen, but the good news is, they’re almost always fixable. The most common issue we see is location settings not being fully enabled. Since Everlance is a mileage tracking app, we rely on GPS to log your trips accurately.
We never use your location data for anything else. It’s only used to build your mileage log, so you have a clear, accurate record at tax time or when requesting reimbursement. With the right settings, auto-tracking works reliably for most users. And if you ever want more control, you can always start and stop trips manually.
Totally fair. This one’s personal, and we get that.
Everlance is SOC-2 certified, uses bank-level encryption, and earns revenue through subscriptions, not by selling or sharing your data. What gets tracked, and when, is completely up to you. You can pause tracking anytime, use manual mode, or limit tracking to work hours only. (Which, honestly, is probably our most underutilized feature..it's truly great)
Some drivers worry that letting Everlance run in the background will kill their phone. The app is designed to use minimal power. It checks location passively and only records trips when you’re moving. If you’re seeing battery issues, a quick settings check usually solves it, our Help Center has a deep dive on battery consumption!
That’s true..kind of. Everlance is a subscription app. But we do offer a free plan, and for many part-time drivers or side hustlers, it’s enough.
The free plan includes:
If you drive more often, upgrading to a paid plan unlocks unlimited automatic tracking and additional tools to help you stay organized and save more, such as expense tracking, built in tax filing, audit protection, work hours, and more....and for most people, it’s worth it.
Everlance doesn’t rely on ads or selling data. We earn revenue through subscriptions, so we’re fully aligned with helping you keep more of what you earn.
First impressions matter. Maybe something felt off. Maybe you had a technical issue. Maybe it just didn’t stick and we just missed the mark. We hope you shared this experience with us! We love to hear the good, bad, and especially the ugly. We're hard at work every day under the hood building based on the feedback we get. It's the only way we learn.
And people have noticed. We’re proud to be the top-rated mileage tracking app on both Apple: Apple Mileage Tracker and Android: Android Mileage Tracker, thanks to the thousands of drivers who’ve shared their experiences and helped us make Everlance better.
You don’t have to drive full-time to benefit from tracking your mileage.
